NSD Payment System Assigned ‘National Importance’ Status

14.07.2014 17:29 / Interfax

National Settlement Depositary has been recognized as a payment system of ‘national importance’, according to the Bank of Russia website.

This is the first payment system recognized as nationally important in the payment system operators registrar.

The operator, National Settlement Depositary, is part of the Moscow Exchange Group (MOEX).

The concept of ‘nationally important payment system’ was introduced this spring in the National Payment System Act. A payment system is assigned national importance status if the payment system and payment infrastructure operators are directly or indirectly controlled by the Russian Federation, the Bank of Russia or the citizens of Russia, and the IT systems implemented by the operators comply with requirements set out by the Russian Central Bank.
