Tatarstan May Be First to Host 2 Economic Zones

21.06.2012 15:30 / Interfax

Tatarstan may become the first Russian region to host two special economic zones, Deputy Minister for Economic Development Oleg Savelyev told Interfax.

“We are currently discussing the possibility of establishing a tech implementation zone in Tatarstan, possibly managed by Jerong company from Singapore”, he said.

Tatarstan can thus become the first Russian region with two special economic zones – in addition to the existing Elabuga industrial production zone.

Deputy Minister noted that “the zone could be a new type, including housing and innovation facilities”. Customs in the special economic zone could be abolished, as they “complicate the business”.

Savelyev also said that a new industrial production zone could be set up shortly in the Pskov region. According to him, the project has been approved by all authorities and has been submitted to the Ministry of Justice.
