Eurasian Economic Union Project Be Prepared By May 2014

19.12.2012 21:14 / Interfax

The Eurasian Economic Union Agreement project is to be ready for signing by May 2014, said President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin.

“We asked governments of the three states to activate work for this plan to be accepted by the governments by May 1st, and the Agreement project to be presented for signing by May 2014 (on creating the Eurasian Economic Union), and the Eurasian Economic Union to be launched on January 1, 2015,” Vladimir Putin declared to journalists summing up the results of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council meeting.

Talking about the Customs Union, Putin reminded that the goods turnover between the three countries has increased by 10% since it was established, while Russia’s turnover with other world countries has increased only by 4.7%.

What’s more important, he added, is that the turnover structure inside the Union gives the equipment and machines sector up to 20%, while Russia’s worldwide turnover gives only 2% to this sector.

“It means that we don’t only satisfy each other in the labor capacity level, transport infrastructure development and cooperation between our major industries, but are very attractive and effective as partners,” Putin said.

He noticed that cooperation inside the Customs Union raises competitiveness abilities of the Union’s member states. Putin also informed that as a result of the Union’s work, the participants managed to come up with an agreement to develop information work on placing the commission on the worldwide arena.
