Government Introduces Russia-Kyrgyzstan Cooperation Agreement to Duma for Ratification

On Tuesday, the Russian Government introduced for Duma ratification the Russia-Kyrgyzstan Cooperation Agreement, which forms part of the Eurasian Economic Integration process. The bill is posted on the State Duma website.

The document supports Kyrgyzstan’s intention to join the Customs Union and aims at economic integration and adaptation of Kyrgyz Republic economy to the statutory nase of the Customs Union, states the bill memo. The Agreement covers joint development efforts in agriculture, clothing and textile industry, processing, mining and metallurgy, transport, housing construction, trade, business and infrastructure development.

The Agreement will be funded by the Russian-Kyrgyz Development Fund, with charter capital of USD 500mn and loans worth at least the same.

Russia will provide USD 200mn over two years to finance the Kyrgyz Republic Customs Union Ascendancy Roadmap.

The Agreement due for ratification was signed in Astana on 29 May 2014. Today, Russia and Kyrgyzstan have in place a Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance Treaty of 1992 and a Declaration of Everlasting Friendship, Alliance and Partnership of 2000.
