Moscow Region May Take Industrial Facilities From Moscow

21.06.2012 14:14 / Interfax

Moscow Region and Moscow City authorities are discussing the partial relocation of industrial facilities from Moscow, according to Moscow Region Governor Sergey Shoigu.

“We would like to offer Moscow a place to relocate part of the industrial facilities, since daily commuter traffic to Moscow is some 820-830 thousand people daily – morning and evening”, said Shoigu in a Russia 24 TV interview at the St Petersburg International Economic Forum.

The Governor said this initiative has been discussed with Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin. “We are currently working on a list of enterprises that can be relocated from Moscow to the suburbs. If this manages to cut the commuter traffic by at least 200-300 thousand, the transport infrastructure will carry less overload, a welcome change for both Moscow and the suburbs”, said Shoigu.
