Moscow May Buy Some 100 Electric Buses Worth RUB 700-800mn in 2012

17.10.2011 15:13 / Interfax

Moscow Transport and Road Infrastructure Department is planning to purchase some 100 electric buses for municipal transport, said Deputy Head of Department Yuri Mazikin at a Duma round table on development and legal regulation of eco vehicles on Monday.

"We have 100 vehicles slated for 2012 in the budget ", said Mazikin, adding that each 12-meter-long bus is worth approx. RUB 7-8mn. This makes all 100 vehicles worth RUB 700-800mn. He estimates average daily mileage of municipal transport at 220-250 km per 20-hour shift.

He added that no further plans for electric buses have been made.

Department expert will visit NEFAZ, Russian Bus test drives of electric buses in late October.

Speaking of gas-powered public transportation in Moscow, he noted that its development is slowed down by Gazprom infrastructure creation process.

"Gazprom has failed to build a gas station infrastructure in 10 years. Gazprom has swept the gas station issue under the rug", said Mazikin.

Deputy Head of Moscow Transport and Road Infrastructure Department also stated that one of the possibilities under discussion today is building charging stations in parking lots and transfer hubs for private electric cars.
